Lauren and I met through babywearing and breastfeeding. Oh. And the good Old Line State. We both used to live in Maryland before landing down here in Florida where we have traded spikey seed pods of the sweetgum for swaying palm trees.
Maryland is known for a few things, blue crabs being one of the most popular. So it was no surprise that BWI of Southern Maryland had a custom Natibaby wrap that featured that elegant swimming crustacean so prominently. This wrap is what connected Lauren and I. We both jumped at the chance to wrap our babies in cloth that represented a place we had loved to call home. After chatting about Maryland and our wraps online, we finally met face to face when we modeled together during the 2015 Treasure Coast Babywearing fashion show for World Breastfeeding Month. It was there I discovered that she also had a Wrapsody Breeze so she modeled her Lily wrap for my project... and told me she was expecting! Technically I guess that would be considered our first maternity session together.
Not long after that, she booked a maternity and lifestyle newborn session with me. Lauren has the inextricable grace and beauty of the girl next door and a movie star all in one, so I was thrilled to photograph her again (and again and again, actually! Those sessions will come later).
This sea heart, a gift from the sea, brought me good luck with my own birth a few months prior. I brought it to her session to perhaps pass that joy along. I'm pretty sure it worked!
And, because it is Florida, there's usually wildlife affecting the session in one way or another. Do you see the jumping fish?
